pii2012 Technology Showcase

Along with the Innovator Spotlight start-ups, the following companies participated in the Technology Showcase at pii2012 on May 15th.

Connect.Me is a socially-verified reputation network. It lets users of Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn (and soon Google+) build their own personal reputation cards by vouching for each other’s skills, interests, and passions. All vouching is on contextual tags displayed on your Connect.Me card. Any Connect.Me user can add new tags, and everyone controls the tags that appear on their Connect.Me card.

To protect against gaming, Connect.Me users advance through four levels of trust defined by the Respect Trust Framework, which won the Privacy Award at the 2011 European Identity Conference. Each trust level is based on the vouches you receive from other users. The highest level—trust anchor—is reserved for users who are personally known and vouched for by other trust anchors.

Connect.Me is not a “social scoring system” and does not use hidden algorithms to calculate influence. Rather the entire network is formed through peer-to-peer vouching to build reputation.

Lockify is the simplest, securest way to share, track and control confidential messages & files.

Bad things happen when confidential business communications end up in the wrong hands — compromised accounts, sites & identities; stiff fines & penalties for violating privacy laws & industry regulations; and frequently worse of all, public relations nightmares. Unfortunately, end-to-end encryption systems to date have had user experiences ranging from mediocre to terrible. They all require a frustrating combination of registration, installing software and coordinating keys. And even if you’re up for the challenge, your less-tech-savvy recipients likely will not be.

Lockify’s patent-pending web & mobile-based technology combines PGP-quality security with convenience similar that of a URL-shortener like Bitly or TinyURL. No registration, no downloads, no key coordination. Currently in private beta, Lockify will be launching publicly early this summer. Attendees at pii2012 can receive early access by emailing pii2012@lockify.com.

OneID is a revolutionary new system for securely managing user identity. Most Internet users face the challenge of keeping track of dozens of usernames and passwords for all of the places they need to log in.  OneID securely manages those credentials, freeing users from the need to memorize passwords (or worse, using the same password in several places). Additionally, OneID can securely provide relying websites with user information, such as shipping addresses and credit information, without requiring manual entry of this information each time when authorized by the user.

Designed to be compatible with a wide range of uses, OneID combines new cryptographic techniques to provide highly secure authentication where it is needed without complicating the login process where it is not.  Its innovative data repository stores encrypted information, the keys to which are retained by the user, putting users in direct control of how their identity information is shared.

Ownafide is a social discovery website that uses products to introduce people who share similar hobbies and interests. Users create inventories of the products that relate to their favorite activities. Product owners can upload their own photos and videos of those activities. Users are then introduced to one another based upon their inventories, using their photos and videos as centerpieces to begin a private conversation in real time. Users can then follow one another and comment on their uploads publicly.

These micro communities not only serve as a means of socializing for the individual user but also as a visual resource for product and hobby related research for all users. And with other features such as wish lists so users can easily inform their friends and family of what they would like next, Ownafide sets itself apart as a social platform that is not only social but is equally practical and informative.

TrustCloud is a credit system for the Sharing Economy that measures trustworthy behavior online to build a portable and contextual trust score you can use anywhere.  Measuring behavior and transactions over time, and in the right context (i.e. borrowing my car versus walking my dog), gives a more complete picture of trustworthiness. And wherever there’s online activity, there’s a chance to add to your trustscore. The more sources you activate, like endorsements and transactions, the deeper your profile. We then take all that data and make it accessible, portable, & secure.

TrustCloud gives those in the Sharing Economy the confidence to make smart decisions on the stranger they just agreed to let walk their dog, watch their kid, or rent their spare room.
